About this tool
Split PDF breaks one document into many. Pick Each-page mode to get one PDF per page, or Custom-ranges mode to define your own page ranges (1-3, 4-7, 8-end) and get one PDF per range. The output is a zip archive you download in a single click. It's the right tool when a long document needs to be cut up — chapters separated, invoices pulled out, forms divided across recipients.
Page numbers in Custom-ranges mode are 1-based and inclusive, so a range of 1 to 5 produces a five-page output PDF covering pages one through five. Each output PDF preserves bookmarks, form fields, annotations, and links that fall within its range. Overlapping ranges are allowed — the same page can appear in more than one output file when you need it to.
How it works
Drop your PDF
Drag a PDF onto the upload area or click to pick one. We read its page count immediately so you can range against the actual document.
Choose a mode
Each page produces one PDF per page automatically. Custom ranges lets you carve out specific page spans like 1-3, 4-7, or 8-end.
Define your ranges
In Custom-ranges mode, type the start and end page for each range. Add more rows for additional outputs — three ranges produce three PDFs in the zip.
Click Split and download
We process the document on the server and stream back a zip archive. Save it locally and unzip to access the individual PDFs.
When to use it
- Extracting one chapter (pages 42-78) from a long ebook or report.
- Pulling individual invoices out of a single bundled batch PDF.
- Splitting a multi-form packet so each recipient gets only their form.
- Sending only pages 1-3 of a contract to a counterparty who doesn't need the appendices.
- Reducing file size by extracting only the pages you actually need to share.
- Separating a scanned bundle (passport + bank statement + utility bill) into discrete documents.
Frequently asked questions
- What format is the output?
- A zip archive with one PDF per range you specified. In Each-page mode you get one PDF per page (so a 12-page document becomes 12 PDFs inside the zip). In Custom-ranges mode you get one PDF per range — three ranges produce a zip with three PDFs.
- Can I split into one PDF per page?
- Yes — pick the "Each page" mode and click Split. Every page in the document becomes its own single-page PDF, all bundled together in the resulting zip. No need to enumerate ranges manually.
- What if I specify overlapping ranges?
- Each range produces its own output PDF independently, so overlap is fine. If you set range 1 to pages 1–5 and range 2 to pages 4–7, page 4 and page 5 will appear in both output files. Use this when you need the same pages in two different deliverables.
- Will form fields be preserved?
- Yes — interactive form fields, checkboxes, signatures, and field values are preserved within their original range. A range that includes a page with form fields will produce an output PDF where those fields still work the same way they did in the source document.
- What happens to bookmarks?
- Bookmarks are preserved per range. If a range covers pages 8–end and the original document had a bookmark targeting page 12, the output PDF will still have a bookmark pointing to its corresponding page (page 5 of the new file). Bookmarks pointing outside the range are dropped.
